Del Mar is a lovely, affluent beach community located mid-way in San Diego County. The small, incorporated town consists of approximately 5,000 homes, many of which are exclusive, custom-built residences. Besides boasting some of the prettiest, flat, and easily-accessible sandy beaches, Del Mar is also noted for the Del Mar Racetrack and Fairgrounds and the lovely L’Auberge Resort. Historically there has always been a connection and history between Del Mar and the inland community of Rancho Santa Fe. In fact, many wealthy homeowners have residences in both communities. With a population of approximately 4,500 in the 2.1 square mile coastal area, Del Mar offers an oasis of unhurried, yet civilized living.

Del Mar is a small, seaside village approximately 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego. Defined by calm salt-water lagoons at each end, this charming, laid-back town is best known for it’s exceptional weather, world famous thoroughbred racetrack, county fair, fabulous beaches, renowned cuisine, and unique shopping. Visitors can enjoy many of the pleasures of the Village without ever needing a car.
Education
Del Mar is part of the award-winning Del Mar Union School District and San Dieguito Union High School District. There are two elementary schools in the City of Del Mar, Del Mar Heights and Del Mar Hills.
The San Dieguito Union High School District encompasses Carmel Valley Middle School, Canyon Crest Academy, and Torrey Pines High School. Private schools in Del Mar include Del Mar Pines, the Winston School, and Del Mar Montessori.
You’ll Fall in Love With
Powerhouse Park is a long grassy area, which overlooks Del Mar City Beach. At the south end of Powerhouse Park is a playground and at the north end is the Powerhouse Community Center. The park lies between Coast Blvd and the small cliffs overlooking the water. It offers a relaxed, romantic atmosphere. During summer, concert-goers gather at the park to enjoy the Del Mar Twilight Summer Concert. South of Powerhouse Park is Seagrove Park, which sits at along a bluff at the foot of 15th Street. Del Mar Village is only 2 blocks from the park.
